My Art Is As Good As AI Art

Unless it is good art, which is amost impossible.

AI art: text, sound, images

can follow the rules,

or fail to follow the rules.

"But Antony, it's not just rules,
those are stochastic models."

There are still rules.

Rules complex, customized, aesthetic,
explicit (prompt) or implicit (training).

AI can make what we call Art.

But it can not make
what I call real art, or good art.

Not yet, I think.

Neither can artists though.

Sorry guys.

If AI can take your job, your are
not making money as an artist.

You are paid for your useful
and until recently rare skills in:

aesthetics, design, painting, R&D, prototyping, scultping, copywriting, storytelling.

That os high-level high value work.
No argument there.

But real artists, I think,
are grateful for AI.

AI serves the real artist two ways.

One: As a powerful toolkit.

With AI I can 'paint bucket' a perfectly matching human, tomato, blizzard in my work.

Great! it saves me hours of photoshop work.

Two: It helps separate real art, that rare unicorn, from its useful imposters: craftsmanship, skill, workhours, inspiration, wit, aesthetics.

"I thought you are a real artist. Thanks to AI I now understand you are merely someone very smart, with incredible skills and talents, who works very hard."

Most humans who we call artists can not make real art.

So, what the hell is 'real' Art?

To make art is to skillfully break the rules of art- making.

That confuses us.

Because the art-making rules have already been broken a thousand ways by past real artists.

Art is: Stunning, meaningful work, before it was cool.

The pioneering aspects that contributed to making past real art real, past good art good,

have become rules for us:
in style, in technique, in aesthetic.

Rules we humans, and AI,

almost inevitably follow

making art that is not real art

but still looks and sounds and feels wonderful.
