No one can teach art.

Namedrops:
Rory Sutherland: legendary marketer
Louis CK: legendary stand-up comedian
Nils Frahm, Jacob Collier: legendary musicians
Rory Sutherland teaches alchemy and preaches magic.
Louis CK and Nils Frahm perform magic.
But to reverse-engineer and teach art?
You might as well keep obsessing with your project.
What we teach is tools, skills, history, frameworks, storytelling.
There is work that ticks all the boxes good art often ticks, but is no art.
I despise myself for feeling that Jacob Collier's impressive work is no art.
Some musicians are cocky and self-congratulating with feeling the same way about him.
I despise them too, because we may be wrong.
I am not a musician.
Back to art.
There is great art that ticks no boxes.
It doesn't even tick the innovation box,
the 'out of the box' box.
Good art is almost nowhere, or almost everywhere.
Good art is in a wicked superposition of, maybe,
"art is much bigger than you or me, blind to our petty notions".
and
"if you become an art-beholder your life is art."
Not aesthetic, don't mix it up.
Aesthetic is a common box much art ticks.
I do try to solve art.
To learn and write on how to make good art.
As I may or may not be able to make good art.
Like other craftsmen who call themselves artists
I build skills & tools that I suspect may help me make good art.
But, unlike any other practice,
if I get excellent at everything I learn
I may still fail to make good art.
That is why art fascinates me so much.
